New information posted by Gerweck.net reveals that Torrie’s May 2003 Playboy cover ranks as the second biggest selling Diva issue of all time - only beaten by former Intercontinental Champion, Chyna! Considering the decline of WWE’s popularity and ratings in recent years, it’s amazing to see Torrie was able overcome Sable’s 1999 cover! Congratulations to Torrie! Torrie and Sable’s March 2004 spread ranks as the fourth biggest selling, after Sable’s first solo effort! Check out the piece below:
From Steve Carson: I work in the advertising biz and it just so happens that one of our advertisers is Playboy, so in honor of Maria’s issue being released I thought I’d send you some info on the best and worst selling diva Playboys! Please note this information is on a yearly basis from the month of the issue to one year after.
Chyna’s November 2000 cover is the biggest selling WWE diva issue of all time. The lowest selling goes to Ashley Massaro for her cover last year, though her year has just a few weeks left it is near impossible it will match its closest rival. Here are the rankings:
1-Chyna (November 2000)
2-Torrie Wilson (May 2003)
3-Sable (April 1999)
4-Sable and Torrie Wilson (March 2004)
5-Candice Michelle (April 2006)
6-Christy Hemme (April 2005)
7-Ashley Massaro (April 2007)
Sorry for not giving you a Daily Download yesterday, but we’re back today with another classic Torrie moment. For today’s Download, we look back at the storied friendship and rivalry of off-air BFFs, Torrie and Stacy Keibler. Long before she danced her way into Hollywood, Stacy and Torrie were seen duking it out on WWE television and one of their very first singles encounters took place at No Mercy 2001, when they competed in the first ever Lingerie Match:
If you’ll remember, last month we reported that Torrie was listed for a SmackDown! live event last night in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. I know I certainly had hoped for a Torrie comeback, but alas it wasn’t to be. Torrie wasn’t in attendance at last night’s show.
Like I said before, these schedules are made months in advance and are only a tentative line-up, not definite. It would seem Torrie is still on the injured list, so I’d like to take this moment to wish her our best once again! So please join us in wishing Torrie well!
A big thank you to my amazing friend Erin at Melina-Perez.org for today’s Daily Download video. We have Torrie taking on Melina on the October 9th, 2006 edition of RAW. It was a first round match in the WWE Women’s Championship Tournament after the title was vacated, due to Trish Stratus’ retirement. In this Lumberjill Match, several WWE Divas - who would be involved in “Extreme Strip Poker” the next night on ECW - surrounded the ring. Though Torrie lost the match and her place in the tournament, she gained a big pop for giving Kristal a Facial!
Daily Download (”YouTube Edition”) continues today, with a match from RAW in the summer of 2006. The bout was between Torrie and Lita, who made her active return to the ring around the same time after months of serving solely as Edge’s manager. 2006 was a great year for Torrie as she showed how far she’d come as in an in-ring performer putting on great quality matches with the likes of Lita, Victoria and Mickie James. Though she lost the match, this match was a nice retrospective moment seeing two of WWE’s veteran Divas lock up:
Daily Download returns to iTorrie… kind of! We’re diving into the history books and pulling out our favourite, monumentus clips from Torrie’s career! While Josh prepares his usual Daily Download, allowing you to download clips etc. I thought I’d get the party started and where better to find any clip you could possibly imagine than YouTube?
Today’s Daily “Download” is Playboy-themed in light of Maria’s recent Playboy unveiling on RAW. In May 2003, Torrie became the first WWE Diva to pose for Playboy in some years as she pioneered the synergy between Playboy and WWE that has led to a Diva pose for Playboy every year since her first cover. And before there were unveilings from Christy, Candice, Ashley and Maria… there was Torrie’s “Coming Out Party” which packed quite the punch - the return of Sable! Arguably one of the best Playboy storylines the WWE has ever done - this storyline from the outset with the shocking return of a legendary Diva, was explosive! The rivalry between Torrie and Sable on SmackDown! was all kinds of cool and as they say, it started with a kiss…
The designer who created Torrie’s hot-pink wrestling attire on Bravo’s “Project Runway” failed to win the show’s fourth season, it was revealed in the season finale last night. Rami Kashou was one of the final three along with Jillian Lewis (Michelle McCool’s designer) and the very fierce - and eventual winner - Christian Siriano (Kristal Marshall’s designer).
In early February, Torrie and five fellow WWE Divas appeared on the hit reality show, when the designers were called to create a wrestling outfit for each of the Divas. Chris won the challenge for his leopard print design for current Playboy covergirl, Maria.
Though Rami didn’t win, don’t feel too sorry for him just yet: Rami Kashou may have a new celebrity client in Heidi Klum, who expressed an interest in wearing some of his creations. “She already pulled some of my clothes for fittings,” he says. “So that’s great. Anybody would want to dress Heidi!”
PS: Your requests have been heard, Josh and I are working on relaunching our “Daily Download” in the next few days!
What’s up everybody! It feels like forever since I last updated, it’s been a slow news day month, huh? Anyway, Torrie is today’s Daily Diva at WWE.com! Check out all the photos from the photoshoot by clicking here.
Hopefully there’ll be something new to report soon on the Torrie front! As we reported a few weeks ago, Torrie’s listed for the March 8th house show so we’ll see if anything comes of that, it could just be a tentative schedule as these things are always subject to change. In the meantime, is there anything you guys want to see on the site since things are quiet? Let us know and we’ll see what we can do to liven things up!
On this Monday’s Raw, Maria Kanellis will reveal the cover of her Playboy Photoshoot. So today we look back at Torrie on the set of the Girl Gone Wild PPV revealing her cover.
In this week’s Diva Dish on WWE.com, the Divas talk about their cars. Check out what Torrie had to say:
Like Layla, Torrie Wilson has a Range Rover parked in her garage, too.
“I have a Range Rover and I love, love, love it. It’s dark gray and it has this really cool, special edition interior. It’s all black suede, even on the ceiling, and it’s striped with brown,” the SmackDown beauty said. “It’s totally the car you can have a party in. Like, I can just park and have a party with my friends in there!”
