Dawn Marie on Al Wilson Storyline

Former WWE Diva, Dawn Marie commented on the infamous storyline with Torrie and Al Wilson in her latest interview and it’s very interesting. Read below:

One subject that James Guttman had to ask about was working with Al Wilson. Most outsiders who come in to WWE for a storyline wind up with past ClubWWI.com guests Rikishi or Mae Young sitting on their face. Al won the one-shot lottery and got to marry Dawn. He asks what it was like working with Torrie’s dad.

“It was a great experience. Al was such a great sport, wasn’t he?…When we were first talking about the storyline, they went to Torrie and they asked her, ‘Would you rather us hire an actor or would you rather we bring your father in – your real father?’ And she thought it would be a great opportunity to be able to have her real father come in. On the road you’re away so much and I think that’s what gave us such a great twist was that it was her real father. And just the surprised looks. There’s nothing like seeing your real father doing what he was doing.”

Dawn Marie goes on to speak about setting some of the spots up, the embarrassment she had around Torrie afterwards, what the boys said about it, and more. James then asks about the angle’s abrupt end. It seemed almost unfinished and there were a number of different directions people thought it could go in. Dawn answered:

“I think it was supposed to go further and to be honest with you, I think someone pissed somebody off and it just got ended.”

Dawn explains that she doesn’t know the truth, but she thought that’s the most likely reason for it to end as it did. She then reveals that at one point she knew they were contemplating bringing in Torrie’s sister for the angle too and doing a follow-up story centered around the inheritance.

She says she’s not sure who pissed someone off, but someone did. Guttman talks about the amount of people involved with writing the stories and it’s hard to pinpoint who causes its downfall at times. Dawn takes a guess at it:

“I know Paul Heyman had a lot to do with that angle and I’m sure he probably pissed somebody off or I pissed somebody off. I’m sure it was either me or him. (laughs) That’s about as honest as I can get. It just ended too abruptly for it to be any other reason.”

Torrie: I’m Alive

Torrie has finally updated us on her surgery, which she had last week. Check out her blog below:

Well guy’s I made it back from surgery alive!!!! I have to say that there for a minute I was pretty nervous about the whole deal! My surgeon, who was absolutely amazing scared me a bit right befor going under the knife…let’s just say that as I was stepping onto the little surgery table and starting to feel like I had about 10 shots of Petron’ tequila, my sweet little Dr. says to me “So Torrie are you ready to go?!” I looked at him with tears in my eyes ( I was crying all morning because I was so scared!) and said “I guess as ready as I will ever be, just please promise me that I won’t wake up paralyzed because of a mistake.” Ok so what words do you think came out of his mouth after that? …this is what he said….”Honey being paralyzed is the least of your worries with a surgery like this! You have a lot of major organs just on the other side of where I am working and if I just happen to accidently puncture any of them you could bleed to death easily!” so of course I asked him…”well what if that happens? I mean what can you do to help me?” He replied with ” Well, honey I will just have to cut you open all the way across your stomach and work hard to fix the problem and stop the bleeding….but you will end up with a pretty large scar across your stomach!”

Ok so call me crazy but I was inches away from taking off for the parking lot just at that moment! Instead I prefered to pray the hardest I have ever prayed that everything goes fine and dandy! The surgery did take a little longer than usual so of course when I woke up at 8pm the first thing I did after looking at the clock was feel for a cut across my tummy…and luckily everything went great. Needless to say, I am so very thankful that I got such a wonderful Dr. that went above and beyond. I am slowly starting to walk better and feel like my old self again…And just so you guy’s can see how absolutely horrible I can look, I decided to show you a couple pics of me after surgery in the hospital without of stitch of makeup on….now that’s love if you can get past that sight!

Anyway, I just wanted to fill ya’all in on how the back surgery went and let you know I made it…..leaving for Mexico on Thursday!…I will show you pics from that as well. (and hopefully I will look a tad better in those!)

Love you all! -Torrie

Torrie on WWEGlobal.com

WWE has launched a new website called WWEGlobal.com, highlighting the company to International audiences and they have a select few WWE Superstars featured, with Torrie being the only Diva representing SmackDown! along with The Undertaker, Batista and Rey Mysterio to name but a few. I’m sure they’ll replace her soon enough, but for now take a look!

A lot has been said since Torrie’s retirement by fans. Torrie may not have been the best wrestler but I think Torrie’s inclusion in this (and many other features in the past), reflects WWE’s stance on Torrie. She was always considered one of the top Divas and used many a time to promote and represent the company.

Torrie Undergoing Surgery

Torrie will be having surgery on her back today, she wrote on her MySpace. Please keep Torrie in your thoughts!

Hey my friends!

Well, I just wanted to let you in on everything that’s happening! I am going in for back surgery today and I am so very nervous. I know that I am in great hands as far as all my Dr.’s and all but it’s still scary if you really think about it….I have to say that I absolutely cannot wait to feel better though and I am so damn tired of feeling crickety and fragile and not being able to be as active as I want. They are doing a new kind of surgery where they go in through your side and use a scope to take out one of my discs and replace it with something synthetic. My Dr. says that within 6 weeks I will be able to run some (which is my loooove!) and that I will be walking around tomorrow but please please please say a prayer for me today that everything will go smoothly! If all goes well, my reward will be a trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico in 10 days so I can’t wait for that! I will let you know how it all goes in the next couple of days. Love you all!

Torrie Returning For One Night?

According to idahostatesmen.com, Torrie is scheduled to return to WWE for one night when the RAW brand travels to Boise, Idaho on June 14th for a house show! I don’t know if this news is true or false at the moment, it could simply be a schedule that was devised months before (as many of these house show schedules are). But let’s see how this plays out!

If the schedule holds true, for the naysayers out there, this proves that Torrie parted ways with WWE on good terms and wasn’t just released and left out in the cold.

Update on iTorrie!

Don’t worry, this isn’t a post saying we’re closing! Quite the contrary actually! I know updates and everything have been incredibly slow as of late, but of course with Torrie’s retirement news is slow. Furthermore, I’m aware there’s some issues with the site (the pages not working, issues with the gallery) but I will work on them when I have more time. The reason for this post is to ask for your patience while I find the time to do that. I have my end of year exams at university coming up and lot on my plate overall, but once that is done I will be able to focus on the site more this summer.

Torrie’s retirement closes the chapter on her wrestling career and for the site, there’s a lot of stuff that will need reworking. I hope to turn iTorrie into a more definitive source, a tribute if you will, to Torrie’s near-decade career. That’s not to say we won’t keep updating with the latest news etc., but the site will overall move on from Torrie’s WWE career and become more of an overall site dedicated to Torrie.

I don’t want to try and fix the pages and gallery now, when I’m going to be redesigning in a couple of months anyway. So again, I ask for your patience. Thanks for continuing to support iTorrie and the Diva herself, stay tuned!

Former WWE Writer “Killed Torrie’s Dad”

A former writer for WWE, Seth Mates, has recalled on the infamous storyline on SmackDown! which included Torrie’s dad, Al. In light of Torrie’s retirement, Seth revealed in his blog that he was the one who came up with the idea to kill off Al:

WWE.com reported a couple of days ago that Torrie Wilson has been given her release, apparently confirming the rumors that she’s been told that she shouldn’t be competing in the ring anymore.

I thought I’d mark the occasion by reminiscing a bit about one of the Wrestle-crappiest storylines I was ever a part of: the Torrie-Dawn-Al debacle.

For those of you who don’t know about the storyline (or those of you who do but choose to block it out), Dawn Marie meets Torrie’s dad and decides to pursue him. Torrie is unhappy, leading to a feud between her and Dawn. Al and Dawn get engaged, and Dawn says she won’t marry Al if Torrie will spend the night with her. Torrie does, but Dawn and Al still get married … only for Al to die during the honeymoon after consummating the marriage a few dozen times.

We on the SmackDown creative team started that storyline for two simple reasons. One, and most obviously, we wanted an excuse to put Torrie and Dawn on TV every week. But second, and more subliminally, there was a big push for more soap-opera type stuff, and we knew if we kept that kind of stuff confined to the women’s division, maybe there would be less pressure to use it with the main event guys. (COUGH Katie Vick COUGH)

We were originally going to hire an actor to play Torrie’s dad, but it was her idea to use her actual dad. We did a thing at Unforgiven with Dawn Marie and some old soap-opera actor to establish the fact that Dawn had a thing for older men. Then, that Thursday on SmackDown, we did some backstage segments to introduce Al (including one where Torrie introduces her dad to Billy and Chuck — you can literally smell the WrestleCrap in this segment).

A quick aside: When producing backstage segments, they always liked for us to have people walking by in the background. I was still very much in the learning stages, following Paul Heyman and Bruce Prichard and others as they produced backstage segments so I could see the ins and outs. At the time, David Lagana was producing the women’s backstage segments, and since I was following him around to learn as well, I became his official “guy who walks through the back of every Dawn, Al and Torrie” segment.”

I actually played a big part in this story. Yes, that night in Toronto, when Torrie was frantically looking for her father in a backstage segment, I’m the guy she walked up to in the hallway who pointed her towards the shower where he was getting frisky with Dawn.

How I knew that they were in the shower together, don’t ask.

Those of you who suffered through this storyline, by the way, might take at least a little comfort in knowing that it was my idea to kill off Al Wilson. We were still hot in our “event television” phase, where we were looking for any excuse to have an “event” — a wedding, a graduation, even a Bar Mitzvah. Knowing that the storyline was dying a slow death anyway, a funeral seemed like the way to go, so I pitched it, and they loved it. Al actually died on TV months after I left the company, which should give at least some of you comfort, to know that some storylines ARE booked months in advance.

(One quick aside: Being at the SmackDown voiceover session the night that Tazz and Michael Cole came up with their “Look at Dawn! Look at Al! Look at Dawn! Look at Al!” gimmick was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen and was one of my most memorable moments at the company. Those guys were hysterical together.)

I’ll write more about this storyline one day down the line (gotta save some stories for the future!) but I thought it’d be appropriate to reminisce a bit now that Torrie’s no longer a part of World Wrestling Entertainment.

So good luck to you in the future, Torrie. And sorry about killing your dad.

New Myspace Blog - Thanks to my Fans

Happy Mother’s Day!

Well, I guess by now you have heard the news that I have severed my ties to the WWE. I would like to say that I have enjoyed 7 awesome years with The WWE and wouldn’t trade any of my experiences for anything in the world. I have seen more places and met more friends and wonderful fans than I ever dreamed of when I pretty much fell into this business. From the very first time I stepped out into a packed arena, I was hooked on that adrenaline rush and knew that I would be around for a while. I really did fall in love with everything about wrestling and I can tell you all that I feel so absolutely honored to have spent the time I did working for Vince McCmahon and his family and having the opportunity to work with so many really talented and genuine superstars. The Sun’s Tribute to Torrie

The Sun.co.uk has posted a tribute to Torrie in their wrestling section:

IT truly is the end of an era.

The lovely Torrie Wilson has left the WWE and will never wrestle again.

The federation posted a short message on their website yesterday saying: “WWE has come to terms on the release of Diva Torrie Wilson as of today.

“We wish her all the best in all her future endeavours.”

It follows Torrie’s confession last month that she can no longer compete.

In a blog on her MySpace site the gorgeous grappler stated: “I have been told by two back surgeons that I should never set foot in a wrestling ring again if I want to be moving around in a few years on my own.

“Pretty depressing if you ask me.

“I don’t even have some awesome memory of what my last match even was or who it was with. Hopefully it was with Victoria and I beat her!

“I guess everything happens for a reason for sure.”

While Torrie will never be remembered for her great matches, she was one of the most genuine and beautiful girls the WWE have ever employed.

Always friendly to fans and open in interviews, Wilson will be greatly missed by everyone who follows and covers the sport.

Especially those of us who fondly recall her on screen snogs with Dawn Marie and Sable.

So in tribute of Torrie’s career and looking forward to more snaps like these in the future – here is a slideshow of some of her best new pics.

Check out the pictures by clicking here.
