We can’t quite count the last time Torrie was in a real storyline with substance. Sure, she’s been involved in angles with Victoria, Candice Michelle, Trish Stratus and others in the past couple of years; but when was the last time we saw Torrie in a long lasting feud with a backstory to it? It seems that the last time was during her last stint on SmackDown! nearly four years ago. During that time, Torrie was featured prominently in longstanding feuds with both Dawn Marie and Sable. However, in today’s WWE it seems like a “real” storyline for the Divas, with both action and acting is too much to ask for.

When Torrie was drafted back to SmackDown! in June, many - including myself - felt like it was the beginning of the end. On RAW, Torrie was at least in with a shot at the Women’s Championship and decent limelight. However, many saw her move back to SmackDown! as a step back; Torrie wouldn’t be considered as a wrestler nor would she appear on the show very often - much like the end of her initial stint on SmackDown! However, this past summer, SmackDown! proved to have even hotter Diva action than it’s RAW counterpart. No one can argue that the multiple Torrie and Victoria matches we’ve seen in the past couple of months have been unenjoyable and in fact, both Divas have been given even more time to shine and develop as characters on Friday nights, rather than get lost in the shuffle on Mondays. Given that SmackDown! isn’t known for a Women’s Championship or active women’s division, Torrie, Victoria and even Michelle McCool have been given fair opportunities on SmackDown! - a far cry from the likes of Mickie James, Jillian and even former Women’s Champion, Melina; all three of whom seem to be disappearing further and further into the background on RAW.

And now enter Krissy Vaine, yesterday Diva fans watched in awe of her debut because for once, WWE created mystery, suspense and drama in a way unbeknownst to the women’s division.

With Krissy Vaine’s debut, WWE has created a unique opportunity to capitalise on the lack of Diva development on SmackDown! and create a fresh, interesting story. And the best part is, for us anyway, Torrie gets to be part of it! Not Candice Michelle. Not Michelle McCool. But Torrie! It’s been a long time since SmackDown! truly had a Diva feud of any kind, over on RAW we see a combination of matches between two Divas and then the angle gets dropped - no backstory, no history to intrigue the viewers. Now, with Torrie’s overseas commitments, she won’t be part of SmackDown! tapings for a couple of weeks which gives WWE the perfect opportunity to build Krissy as a character and draw the fans in… as well as pine for Torrie’s return so she can get revenge! If done the right way, this could be a long, exciting feud. For the better part of the week, Krissy’s debut and attack on Torrie has had the Internet Diva fans talking already. Just from reading the comments on our SmackDown! coverage, you guys seem to want to see a sibling angle of some sort. Personally, I don’t see the likeness between Krissy and Torrie myself, Tara Reid maybe… But that’s a different story. If it can get the fans online interested and buzzing about it already, it can do the same for TV viewers too.

Whatever the storyline WWE goes with, they have an opportunity to create a feud which doesn’t stem from jealousy (like every other Diva feud in the past few years), but a feud that could have substance and a history like Torrie’s 2002 feud with Dawn Marie. From the one edition of SmackDown!, it’s hard to see where this one’s going, but all eyes are on Tuesday night’s SmackDown! taping to see how WWE utilise Krissy - especially in Torrie’s absence; which really works in their favour to set up Krissy as a dominant force “injuring” Torrie. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan of Beth Phoenix, but WWE really failed with hyping her up as a “Glamazon” because they didn’t let her character grow. Some of that failure can be attributed to the fast paced action of RAW, as it is live. However, SmackDown! moves at a much slower pace which allows feuds to grow and become interesting.

Now, I’m not going to predict what WWE will do with this situation, because nine times out of ten, Diva feuds never really amount to much. And who’s to say that this will be any different? But we can only hope. The guys on Creative really do have a chance to make something of this feud, let’s hope they don’t blow it. And wouldn’t it be awesome if they could outshine RAW and it’s women’s division?
